Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King, Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB, on Tuesday, 3 December, 2019, led contractors to an open contract bidding, held at the organisation’s Maryland office.
The SUBEB had announced plans to upgrade some public schools, specifically by constructing classroom blocks, renovating others, furniture supply, and drilling boreholes, among other landmark projects.
Speaking, Alawiye-King said the exercise fulfilled the state’s Public Procurement Agency law 2011 (as amended in 2015).
“The open bidding, importantly, shows transparency of the Lagos SUBEB”, he said.
The SUBEB boss explained that the contracts were part of the 2018 UBEC/LASUBEB intervention projects.
“This intervention is to provide requsite amenities conducive to learning in schools, and the Board’s goal is seeing to their timely execution. It is also important the works are cost-effective and to be done by competent contractors,” said Alawiye-King.
Mr. Baba Asaju, UBEC Lagos State Coordinator, representing the
UBEC secretary, Dr. Hamid Boboye, lauded the Board’s procurement process for being transparent and fair. Asaju said such corrupt-free exercise will ensure only credible contractors emerge bid winners.
Adebayo Adefuye, LASUBEB permanent member, assured diligence in
project execution.
He said strict rules are being set to forestall project stalling, while proper record keeping and accountability would be done.
