FCT Directs Schools To Reopen Tuesday

The Federal Capital Territory Administration says students in terminal classes can re-open from Tuesday to allow them to prepare for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination and the Basic Education Certificate Examination.

It will be recalled that this development came due to the re-opening of schools by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 for students in terminal classes of Junior Secondary School 3 and Senior Secondary School 3 for the purposes of writing the examinations.

Disclosing this in Abuja on Monday in a statement signed by  the acting Secretary for Education, FCTA, Umoru Marafa, stressing that schools that had already put in place measures based on the PTF’s guidelines and have been checked and certified as ready for resumption by the Department of Quality Assurance of the Education Secretariat can also re-open.

He stated: “Students are hereby advised to prepare for resumption on the 4th of August and enjoined to continue to read for their examinations as WASSCE are scheduled to commence from the 17th of August, BECE from the 24th of August and National Business and Technical Examinations Board from 21st September to 15th of October.

“NECO exams start from 5th October to 18th of November; Common Entrance into Unity Schools on Saturday, 17th October and National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies Exams from 23rd September to 17th October, 2020.

“Ahead of the reopening of schools, the Federal Capital Territory Administrations has carried out the fumigation of secondary schools as well as made available facemasks, hand sanitizers and infrared thermometers for use in these schools.”
